Winter Storm Warning for Steamboat

Winter Storm Warning

Steamboat is under a Winter Storm Warning until Friday Evening. While we are thrilled to see the snow coming so early, we are thinking of our friends and family in Steamboat and hope they stay warm the next few days.

The Weather Channel says that snow accumulations may be 5" to 10" or higher along north and northwest facing slopes and The Steamboat Springs area can expect 3" to 7" of snow accumulations.

Even our friends at Google issued a Winter Storm Warning. Let's hope this early start means lots of Champagne Powder this year.

Starting the Season

A new season begins!

We have been very lax this summer keeping up with our posts. I guess it's hard to think of Winter in Steamboat when its been in the high 90's with 100% humidity in South Florida. We have not made our summer trip to Steamboat yet but we are planning for late August. For our followers, future and past, I will make every effort to keep up with The Boat! Keep checking back we have some exciting news for the new winter season. Here is a picture from last year to remind everyone why we go to Steamboat in the winter!

Mountain from Downtown

We were coming back from "Big House Burgers" and the view of the Mountain while downtown was spectacular. In the first photo you can see the runs all across the face of the Mountain.

In this photo you can clearly see the snow clouds over the Gondola and above while the sun was shining down on Lincoln Avenue.

Moose at Fish Creek Falls

Moose at Fish Creek Falls

We took a trip to Fish Creek Falls. While we were walking down the "Overlook Trail" we happened across these Moose resting in the basin. The seemed uninterrupted by our presence. They just watched as we walked by. For a group from Miami this was a momentous surprise.

Snow, Snow, Snow

SNOW!

The first day we arrived there was only a few inches. It started snowing on December 14, 2012 and it hasn't stopped since. The conditions have been so good that they opened 2 more lifts and several runs. When we spoke to one of the Ambassadors they said that by Monday December 17, 2012 they should be opening the Sunshine Lift and maybe even Morningside. This video was taken at Slopeside Grill. As you can see it was snowing profusely.

Sunset from the Gondola

We are just leaving Steamboat and captured this phenomenal sunset from the top of Thunderhead. What a great trip. It's true ...summers in the boat are just as good as winters!
